Shell Salym Development B.V is a member of the Royal Dutch/Shell group of companies ("Shell"). Shell is a major multinational energy and petrochemical group with an excellent international reputation and unparalleled experience in the field of oil and gas developments. Shell has been closely associated with Russia for more than 100 years. At present, Shell is a major direct foreign investor into the Russian economy.
Alongside the development of the Salym fields, Shell's involvement in Russia's oil and gas sector encompasses a number of other activities, the current most prominent among them are:
• Development of Sakhalin II Project offshore Sakhalin Island together with Gazprom, Mitsui and Mitsubishi
• Participation in the Caspian Pipeline Consortium
• Cooperation with OAO Gazprom
Shell's activity in Russia is not limited only to the development of oil and gas fields — Shell aims to actively expand its other businesses (motor oil import, operation of a retail stations network, chemicals marketing and provision of consultancy services on catalyst technology and new product development).

OAO NK Evikhon is a subsidiary of Sibir Energy plc which is an integrated energy company engaged in the acquisition, exploration, development and production of Russian oil and gas reserves, refining of oil, and the sale of oil and refined products through export channels and a Moscow retail service station network.
Sibir's interest in the Salym Fields is through its subsidiary Evikhon, which holds a 50% interest in SPD.
Elsewhere in the Russian upstream, Sibir's Magma subsidiary operates the Yuzhnoye oilfield in Western Siberia.
Downstream, Sibir owned the Moscow Oil and Gas Company.
