The Salym Project development of the Salym Group of oilfields is located in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, 120 kilometres south west of Surgut and 30 kilometres west of Salym village. The Salym oilfields include West Salym, Upper Salym and Vadelyp. Salym Petroleum Development N.V. holds licences for the development of the three Salym oilfields with the Licence Area totalling 2141.4 sq km. The Salym fields recoverable Ñ1+Ñ2 category oil reserves approved by the Russian Federation State Committee on Reserves (GKZ) amount to 140 million tonnes.
SPD and Salym Project: major events and milestones
1996
Shell Salym Development B.V. and OAO NK Evikhon establish Salym Petroleum Development N.V. (SPD) joint venture on a 50:50 basis to develop the Salym Group of fields.
1998
The Licences for the Salym Group of fields are reissued to SPD.
1999
The State Duma adopts a PSA list law.
2000 – 2001
SPD drafts a PSA and PSA Feasibility Study. The document is reviewed and approved by the TsKR (Central Commission on Field Development) of the Energy Ministry of the Russian Federation as the basis for negotiation on PSA terms.
2003
In view of changes in the Russian PSA laws SPD Shareholders take decision to proceed with the Salym Project under the tax/royalty regime.
2004 (April)
Started drilling first development well in West Salym.
2004 (August)
Drilled exploration well to the depth of 2,316 meters in Upper Salym, which indicated an oil-bearing sand.
2004 (December)
Started oil production from West Salym early wells, one year ahead of Licence Agreement schedule.
2005 (March)
SPD was awarded the Russian National Olympus Prize in the category for the Fuel and Energy sector.
2005 (April)
SPD Licences for Upper Salym and West Salym extended to 31 December 31, 2032 and December 31, 2034 respectively.
2005 (August)
Completed construction of 88 km-long oil export pipeline from West Salym to Yuzhny Balyk.
2005 (September)
SPD wins in two categories of Black Gold of Yugra Annual Competition: as “The most dynamic enterprise with oil production volume of under 1 million tonnes” and “For social and economic partnership” and became a laureate in the category “For efficient management of subsoil.”
2005 (November)
West Salym brought on stream
2005 (December)
Produced 100,000 tonne of oil from West Salym
2006 (April)
SPD Supervisory Board decided to build a 45 MW Gas Turbine Power Plant at West Salym to generate electricity by utilising associated gas. Drilled exploration well in West Salym to test the production potential of Achimov formation, which lies at a depth of 2,700-2,800 metres
2006 (June)
Started drilling first development well in Vadelyp.
2006 (August)
Total amount of oil produced from Salym oilfields in 2006 reached one million tonnes benchmark
Built the SPD funded new kindergarten for 210 children in Salym village.

SPD wins as “The most dynamic enterprise with oil production volume of under 1 million tonnes” in the Black Gold of Yugra Annual Competition
2006 (October)
Vadelyp brought on stream.
2006 (December)
Total amount of oil produced from Salym oilfields in 2006 reached two million tonnes benchmark
2007 (January)
The total daily production from Salym oil fields exceeds 70,000 barrels per day production.
2007 (July)
The 200-th well is completed by SPD
The total daily production from Salym oil fields exceeds 90,000 bbl (12,400 tons).
2007 (September)
SPD wins in two categories of Yugra Black Gold Competition (“The most dynamic enterprise with oil production volume of under 5 million tonnes” and “For social and economic partnership”).
SPD and contractors reach 3 million man-hours without LTI (Lost Time Injury).
2007 (October)
Total daily production from Salym oil fields exceeds 100,000 bopd (14,000 tonnes per day).
2007 (November)
SPD and contractors reach a safety milestone of 4 mln man-hours without LTI (Lost Time Injury).
2007 (December)
The total oil production of Salym Petroleum Development N.V in Salym fields increased more than twice compared with 2006 and made 4.26 million tons.
2008 (April)
Total daily production from Salym oil fields exceeds 120,000 bopd (over 16,500 tonnes per day).
2008 (June)
SPD sets a new drilling record of 6,3 days.
2008 (August)
Total daily production from Salym oil fields exceeds 130,000 bopd (around 18,000 tonnes per day).
2008 (September)
SPD wins in two categories of Yugra Black Gold Competition (“The most dynamic enterprise with oil production volume of under 5 million tonnes” and “For social and economic partnership”).
SPD sets a new drilling record of 5,6 days.
2008 (November)
Total daily production from Salym oil fields exceeds 140,000 bopd (over 19,200 tonnes per day).
2008 (December)
The total oil production of Salym Petroleum Development N.V in Salym fields increased 1.5 times compared with 2007 and made 6.3 million tons (45.5 million barrels).
2009 (January)
Total daily production from Salym oil fields exceeds 150,000 bopd (over 20,500 tonne per day).
2009 (April)
Total daily production from Salym oil fields exceeds 160,000 bopd (over 22,120 tonne per day).
2009 (July)
SPD sets a new drilling record of 4,54 days.
2009 (September)
SPD wins in two categories of Yugra Black Gold Competition (“The most dynamic enterprise with oil production volume of above 5 million tonnes” and in the individual category “Best Oil & Gas Operator” – Denis Guzyaev).
2009 (December)
SPD becomes the bronze winner of Excellence in Project Integration Award made by the International Petroleum Technology Conference and Exhibition (IPTC).
2009 (December)
The total oil production of Salym Petroleum Development N.V in Salym fields made 7.65 million tons (55.3 million barrels).
2010 (April)
The 500-th well is completed by SPD. |
