«Goal Zero»
SPD have set itself a goal of having no serious accidents and no serious incidents in its operations, in other words not to harm any people and not to harm the environment. And that’s our main goal and that’s prime condition for us operating in this area. In brief this goal states in Goal Zero slogan. “Goal Zero is about changing the mindset and the behavior considering health, safety, security and environment in our daily working lives”, explains Robert Smit, Head of Salym Field HSSE.
This is not a one-off campaign that would last only a limited period of time. Work without accidents or significant incidents should become a permanent operating principle of the company. It is not an easy task to reach Goal Zero. But the company and its contractors are sure that we can achieve this goal, but it will take a big effort to get there. Everything is in place to make that happen.
SPD has created a comprehensive system for the protection of health, labor and the environment based on a combination of Russian regulations and international best practices and standards. To ensure the implementation of the corporate HSSE standards and not to do harm any people and environment SPD has focused on the following issues: improving (sub)-contractors HSSE management, Road Safety, Worksite Hazard Management and Asset Integrity with Associated Gas Utilisation.
HSSE contractors management is one of the company’s priorities for safe and efficient Salym field facilities operations. SPD provides support to contractors in establishing efficient management of subcontractors with consideration of individual company’s capabilities, duration of the contract and future business perspectives. Such organization allows to be assured that every effort in contractors and subcontractors management is properly followed up and the feed back from our partners taken into account.
To achieve Goal Zero SPD focuses on road safety . “First of all we will improve SPD and contractor driver’s competences through the defensive driver training courses. We will install In Vehicle Monitoring Systems in all company and contractor vehicles that will provide feedback to the driver on how well he is driving and where he could drive even better”, – told Alexander Abramov, Road Safety Advisor and Incident Investigator for SPD. SPD will enforce the Journey management system that will enable us to control risks associated with the road transportation and as well it will provide us a possibility to eliminate trips that are not necessary. All these measures will help us reduce the number of accidents on the roads.
At the end of 2007, SPD started a new Individual Award Program to recognize pro-active behaviour contributing to improved health, safety, security or environment. The main award of the Program is the SPD Goal Zero Hero, an honorary title given every month for outstanding achievement in this area. The winners are selected by the management team. Every employee of SPD can nominate a colleague (including those employed by contractors) for compliance with SPD Golden Rules and contribution to the company’s Goal Zero principles: working with no harm to people and the environment. |
